Why would Malaysian Muslims not want Christians use the word Allah when referring to God?

It is only in Malaysia that the majority ethnic Malay Muslims demand that Christians refrain from referring to Almighty God as Allah in their (Christian) publication, even though Christians in Malaysian Borneo have been using the word Allah for centuries before the formation of Malaysia. Also, many Malay Muslims seem to forget that in the Quran itself, Christian and Pagan Arabs have been doented to refer to God as Allah, which is just an Arabic term for 'God'. In fact, pagan and Christian Arabs have referred to God as Allah long before the birth of Mohammed. Yet now, in Malaysia, we get Muslims demanding that Christians stop 'stealing the word Allah from Muslims' because Allah should only be the exclusive possession of Muslims in the country. Try telling that to Christians in the Middle East!! The Malaysian Muslim reasoning for their right to exclusive use of Allah is that Allah is supposedly an Islamic word, and also that Muslims will easily get confused should they come across Christian publications with the word Allah in it. Can you believe that?!! By this logic, these Muslims are implying that Islam cannot withstand even the mildest scrutiny and challenge. Why should Christians be held to account for Muslims' own tendency for confusion? To be honest, I have begun to lose respect for them and their religion.
